Let not

Today’s Encouragement is John 14:27 ESV Peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you. Not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your hearts be troubled, neither let them be afraid.

Let not-

Jesus spoke these words of Peace to his disciples on the last night He spent with them before His earthly death.

Focus with me on the last sentence.  Let not – Jesus’ words are not carelessly spoken, but rather perfectly chosen to communicate His truth.  And this phrase “let not” and “neither let” clearly implies a role and responsibility that rests with us… in experiencing God’s peace.

He gave us God’s Perfect Peace, it is ours, it is available, and yet, we must not allow our hearts to be troubled or afraid.  God does His part in making His perfect peace available to all who believe, then we must do our part.

We can live within His Perfect Peace by choosing to trust in Him, choosing to dwell within His presence, choosing to worship and honor Him sincerely, but we must also ‘Let Not’… by choosing to refuse to let doubt, fear, and anxiety have any place in our hearts and minds.

“Let not” implies that we would have to allow fear and worry have a place in our hearts.  It is a decision we make day by day, moment by moment.

His peace is already ours, already available.  We make the choice my friend, to live in His Peace and to reject the fear and worry of this world.

Father God help us to recognize our role in receiving Your Peace, give us strength and understanding, and the courage to refuse fear, worry and doubt.  We ask in Jesus’ Name.

Let not your heart be troubled
