An angel appeared

Today’s Encouragement is Luke 22:42-43 NLT “Father, if you are willing, please take this cup of suffering away from me. Yet I want your will to be done, not mine.” Then an angel from heaven appeared and strengthened him.

An angel appeared-

Why did Jesus need strengthening at this time?  Obviously, He knew what was about to occur, the arrest, trial, brutal scourging, and agonizing death on the cross.  None of this was unexpected by the One, Jesus.  Yet in this moment, He was weak!  At least weaker than He ever was before… and He even asked God to remove this ‘cup of suffering’ which He faced… so an angel was sent to strengthen Him.  We don’t know how the angel strengthened Him, but we do know that He arose from this prayer and resolutely faced the horrific suffering without any further hesitancy!

My friend, if Jesus Himself, the perfect, sinless, Son of the Father, Our God… if this Perfect God/man needed strengthening… and received it…. at this most crucial moment of His earthly life… Then, is it possible that… from time to time, you and I will also need strengthening?

And just as the angel strengthened Jesus, (which is an overwhelming thought!)  God will provide exactly what you and I need, at exactly the right moment, so that we too can fulfill what God has called each of us to do!

Philippians 1:6 NLT “And I am certain that God, who began the good work within you, will continue his work until it is finally finished on the day when Christ Jesus returns.”

Father help us to call upon You alone for our needs, and to trust that You will strengthen us to continue Your work, which You have called each of us to do.  You alone are our strength.

He who began a good work
