Please take this

Today’s Encouragement is Mark 14:35-36 NLT “He went on a little farther and fell to the ground. He prayed that, if it were possible, the awful hour awaiting him might pass him by. [36] ‘Abba, Father,’ he cried out, ‘everything is possible for you. Please take this cup of suffering away from me. Yet I want your will to be done, not mine.’”

Please take this –

Friends, we all come to a point in life where we say, or think, or scream, “Why God?  Why is this terrible thing happening to me?  Why?”  Hopefully it is only once… but for some of us, these tragic situations seem to appear all too often.

This was Jesus’ moment… He knew what lay ahead of Him… and we can learn how to live through, survive, even overcome such horrible experiences, (although nothing we experience ever compares to Jesus’ suffering!) by following His example, summarized in this short prayer.

Abba means Daddy… Jesus spoke intimately with His Dad.

Everything is possible for You…  Jesus acknowledged God’s complete and perfect Power, His Omnipotence.

Please take this cup… Jesus made His honest heartfelt request.

Your will… Even though Jesus asked for God’s intervention, His miraculous Power to save, His mercy to be shown… Jesus acknowledged that God’s Will is always right, always best.  God’s will is better than Jesus’, yours or mine.

My friend, great peace and confident assurance awaits us when we follow Jesus, in anything! And this prayer is an example of how to approach God, to express our truest desires, and to ultimately submit to Gods almighty Will and Power. Jesus did not demand, He did not point out all His good works, nor His sinlessness.  He surrendered to God’s perfect Will.

Father, Abba, give us the faith and confidence in You to surrender to Your perfect will, even though we don’t understand, but simply because we Trust in You.

Give me Faith
