Today’s Encouragement is Hebrews 3:12 NLT Be careful then, dear brothers and sisters. Make sure that your own hearts are not evil and unbelieving, turning you away from the living God.
Be careful then –
This is written to us! We are the brothers and sisters who are being warned! Warned about our own hearts turning us away from the living God!
The encouraging word here is that we can do something about this. We can be careful. We can carefully ensure that our hearts are not evil and unbelieving. This is what could turn us away from the living God.
An evil and unbelieving heart is filled with doubt not faith, it is hard and cold towards the suffering of others, it is arrogant and selfish, focused on getting and clinging rather than giving and helping. Especially, the evil and unbelieving heart doesn’t fully trust God, does not accept His truths from the Bible, doesn’t rest in the finished work of Jesus for salvation. Instead, this evil unbelieving heart has grown to be dismissive of God’s Word, His Truth, and the one way to the Father, Jesus Christ.
The caution is for believers. Be careful then. We need not live in fear… we do need to live in an increasing, growing, faithful relationship with our Lord.
Choose Faith not fear; choose Trust not Doubt.
Father God draw us ever closer to You, strengthen our faith, keep our hearts ever sensitive to Your Truth and Your Love.
