Today’s Encouragement is Matthew 26:75 NLT “Suddenly, Jesus’ words flashed through Peter’s mind: ‘Before the rooster crows, you will deny three times that you even know me.’ And he went away, weeping bitterly.”
You will deny –
Peter was one of the closest disciples to Christ. He walked on the water. He was the first to proclaim Jesus as the Messiah. He was the rock upon which Jesus said he would build His church.
And yet, not at the point of a sword, not on trial for his life, not threatened with imminent death or harm… but sitting by a fire, questioned by a lowly servant… he caved!
How many times my friends, have we done the same? Given in to this world, turned our back to the Lord Jesus who gave us Life? In a crowd of unbelievers, we all too often assume their position…
Notice Peter’s remorse… when he realized what he had done… he cried bitterly.
Friends, there is Grace for even this… Jesus did not reject Peter for this betrayal, instead, Jesus intentionally took the next available opportunity to restore, reassure, renew this betrayer… in John 21, Jesus gives Peter the opportunity to proclaim his love for Him…three times.
Whatever you and I have done… my friend… there is Grace for that.
Jesus offered no scolding, no ‘don’t do that but do this’, no sacrifices, nor restitution. This is Grace my friend. God’s Grace – erasing this great denial, this greatest of sins. This is the “Marvelous, Infinite, Matchless Grace of our Loving Lord.”
Marvelous Grace
