Lifelong slavery

Today’s Encouragement is Hebrews 2:14b-15 “…that through death he [Jesus] might destroy the one who has the power of death, that is, the devil, and deliver all those who through fear of death were subject to lifelong slavery.”

Lifelong slavery –

Reading this passage carefully, a few thoughts emerge:

Jesus destroyed the devil!

In the past the devil had the power of death.

Jesus delivered all slaves.

Fear of death is lifelong slavery!

Focus with me on the last phrase, regarding slavery.  This verse describes a portion of the work which Christ did by his life, death, and resurrection on this earth 2000 years ago…

Jesus came and died and rose again to “deliver all those who through fear of death were subject to lifelong slavery.” Friend, Jesus delivered ALL!  All were enslaved – by fear of death. Doesn’t say some, doesn’t say a few, but rather ALL!

My friends, the fear of death can enslave us!  This passage is past tense, Jesus has already done this!  It’s not a matter of what we do or don’t do, nor is it something we need to eradicate, rather it is something we choose to believe!

Father God, help us to so trust in You, in Christ alone, that we have no fear of earthly death; that we could view it as You do, the passage from earthly life to heavenly, eternal life with you.  From believing to knowing.
