Today’s Encouragement is 2 Peter 1:5-7 In view of all this, make every effort to respond to God’s promises. Supplement your faith with a generous provision of moral excellence, and moral excellence with knowledge, [6] and knowledge with self-control, and self-control with patient endurance, and patient endurance with godliness, [7] and godliness with brotherly affection, and brotherly affection with love for everyone.
Supplement your faith –
Paul invites us to pursue excellence of character, some translations call this virtue. This list of characteristics, virtues, or moral excellence seems rather daunting! Yet, these are not requirements for salvation, which is by faith… rather, these are the pursuits of those who are saved by Grace and who choose to press on toward the goal of godliness, out of a sincere love for God. We strive toward moral excellence not to earn God’s grace and love, but because we are sincerely grateful for His grace and love, already freely given, which cannot be earned!
This is moving from spiritual milk to spiritual maturity, from being fed to feeding others, from constantly taking to consistently giving. At the first step of this journey, or in the latter days of our walk… our spiritual lives are enriched beyond measure as we strive, through prayer, study, surrender, and submission to become the person which God created us to be.
Father draw us closer to you, toward true godliness.
