He is the Image

Today’s Encouragement is Colossians 1:15 ‘He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of all creation.’

He is the image –

God the Father, the Great I Am, the Uncreated Almighty Creator – is invisible to us. The eye which He created, as magnificent as it is; our minds, in our great capacity for imagination, still cannot envision His glory nor majesty.

Now, God chose to restore His created beings, these humans running around on this earth, to a right, true, peaceful relationship with Himself.  He wanted to introduce Himself to us, wanted us to know what He is really like, so He sent His Son, His own image… that we might come to know Him, His nature, His character, His wisdom and His immeasurable Love.

Jesus, God incarnate (in human flesh), came to ‘show us’ the Father.  John 14:9a “Jesus said… Whoever has seen me has seen the Father.”

Friends we aren’t left to wonder what God is like.  We just look to Jesus, and we ‘see’, we know God!  Certainly, we can’t know everything about Him, for He is unknowable… but we can know of Him, of His nature, through knowing Jesus!

This is why it is true that Jesus is the only way to the Father.  If one rejects Jesus, who is the very image of God, then one rejects God the Father Himself… because the two are one.

Lord help us to understand that as we read about Jesus, we are learning who You are.  Help us recognize Your mercy, compassion, kindness, wisdom, righteousness, holiness, majesty through Jesus… He is our Savior, Lord and Friend, and Your Image.

This I Believe
