When I saw Him

Today’s Encouragement is Revelation 1:16-18 In his right hand he [Jesus] held seven stars, from his mouth came a sharp two-edged sword, and his face was like the sun shining in full strength. [17] When I saw him, I fell at his feet as though dead. But he laid his right hand on me, saying, “Fear not, I am the first and the last, [18] and the living one. I died, and behold I am alive forevermore, and I have the keys of Death and Hades.

When I saw Him –

John writes in Revelation attempting to describe… the indescribable… our language is inadequate… words fail… in the Presence of Christ.

In the OT accounts of people who encounter God or even His angels, the phrase is often used, ‘I fell at his feet as though dead.’  Overwhelmed, overcome, in complete awe… and again words fail.

Notice however Christ’s response to John’s reaction at His wonderful overwhelming presence… Jesus laid his hand on John, gently and lovingly and reassured him that Jesus loved him.  “Don’t be afraid.”

It seems to me, may be different for the person reason this, that it’s as if Jesus had said, “My presence is not a place of fear, because you have chosen to trust Me as your Savior.  Nor is My presence a place of judgement though you are a human, sinful person. No, in My presence, the focus is not on you, not your sin, nor your unworthiness, not your uncleanliness… but on Me. My Holiness.  Just as the blazing brightness of My face removes all the darkness of sin about you, so My presence obscures and enfolds you.”

We are not ashamed nor guilty in the Presence of the God who is Love, rather we are overwhelmed as we are embraced in His perfect Love.“

Father help us to experience Your perfect love in Your presence.

Never be the Same
