Today’s Encouragement is 1 Corinthians 2:5 “so that your faith might not rest in the wisdom of men but in the power of God.”
The wisdom of men –
Do you notice how it seems the famous people, world leaders, celebrities, and even the pastors of mega-churches all seem to fall at some point? Their human failures, frailties emerge to some degree and their exalted image crumbles to dust. They’re all just people like you and me. All just sinners, some saved by grace and some not. All fail.
This isn’t God tripping them up to prove a point (God isn’t petty!) rather, is it possible that it is inevitable in the human condition that we will all fail morally at some point? Certainly we can agree that from time to time even the most spiritual people still fall short of perfect behavior. Wait, this isn’t justification for immortality… rather a recognition that human failure, Sin, is an undeniable ‘thorn in the flesh’ of our humanity.
Certainly those who serve God genuinely, will, by effort and by prayerful surrender, demonstrate less grievous and fewer instances of overt sin… as opposed to those who fully embrace sin to their heart’s desires. Yet the failure of famous persons, especially those who are believers, often shocks us and can cause us to question the sovereignty or even the existence of God Himself.
My friends, remember that ‘All have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God…’ (Romans 3:23) …All!… Is it possible that this occurs publicly for personalities, politicians and pastors alike in order to demonstrate this truth? So that our “faith might not rest in the wisdom of men but in the power of God.”
Father help us remember that our faith rests in You and Your power alone and not in any man, no matter how wise, famous, or righteous appearing they may be.
None but Jesus
Hillsong
Thanks Rick…good one.
