Today’s Encouragement is Luke 3:8,10 “Bear fruits in keeping with repentance. And do not begin to say to yourselves, ‘We have Abraham as our father.’ For I tell you, God is able from these stones to raise up children for Abraham. [10] And the crowds asked him, “What then shall we do?”
Bear Fruits –
The people of Israel were confident that because they were descended from Abraham, by their race, because they were Israelites, that they were blessed by God and chosen as His people.
In this passage John the Baptist, while preparing the way for Jesus, preached a different message – bear fruit! It’s good that you are descendants of Abraham, but – how you live your life- this is the fruit that you bear – do you live with generosity, kindness, integrity? The following verses outline the practical application of ‘bearing fruit’, as John described it, in summary: ‘You say you believe in Jesus as the son of God… show it! Live a life of fruitfulness, caring for others, being honest, be content with your wages.’ (v14)
Lord, may we also bear fruit consistent with repentant hearts, grateful for all that You have done for us, Loving and Honoring You with our lives, in all our actions and thoughts. Help us bear good fruit Father.
