Tempted

Today’s Encouragement is Hebrews 2:18 “For because he himself has suffered when tempted, he is able to help those who are being tempted.”

He suffered when tempted –

I confess, this is hard for me to grasp… that Jesus was tempted… and that He suffered when He was tempted… and yet, He overcame temptation…

It’d be easier for me to accept that Jesus never was tempted… He was (still is) God in human flesh after all.  I’d prefer to think that he ‘laughed off’ all temptation, didn’t give it a second glance, wasn’t affected in the least by the temptations which you and I face…. but this says… He Suffered!   My friends, Jesus yielded Himself, His deity, to a life on this earth with all its raw, human-ness, and it’s trials and sorrows and dirt…. and He faced the same temptations which we all face…

In Order that…

There was a purpose to His suffering temptation… as there was purpose in everything He did and experienced on this earth.  He is now (because of this suffering of temptations like you and I experience) He is now able to Help us when we are being tempted!

Father, help us to reach out, to cry out, to pray when we face temptations of any kind, asking Jesus for help, because He, alone, is able to help us.
